And The Winner Is…
Do you ever get a cold sweat when you hear that phrase? You ever have that creeping anxiety go up your spine wondering if it’s going to be your name that’s anounced or the guy next to you who’s feeling extra cocky in his new sweater and ultra crisp khakis that looks like he hasn’t made one false move in them since he put them on six minutes ago? Sorry, another bad memory again.
I have been dreaming a heck of a lot lately, (probably from using this new subliminal technology software on my computer), and I just woke up and realized something.
Most of our lives seem to be a competition of sorts. A race to get through grade school, all sorts of competitions, science fairs and spelling bee’s. Who get accepted into what Jr High School, then more competitions and clubs to join.
Join the football team. No, join the chess club or better yet, become the local artist for the school paper. Going to a prestigious High school was a blur for me of competitions, academia an a lot of other nonsense. By the time I got into a college that had more Nobel Prize winners than it had toilet paper, I was disenchanted. Pre-law, snooty proffessors, backstabbing students and the list goes on and on.
I haven’t even gotten to the best part yet; competition in the work place! Now there’s a topic for you!
It’s like every morning before I got up, and everynight before I fell asleep, I heard that announcers voice bellowing, “And The Winner Is…”.
It’s funny though. We all work so hard fast and furious, fighting each other eventually for the priviledge of being able to do nothing at all. Is that the retirement we work so hard for? Is this the prize?
The problem with winning this “Rat Race” is, even if you win, your still a rat.
Well, that announcers voice is diminishing to me because I finally realized there is no competition I need to be in to achieve my goals. I don’t need to make more money than _________ or less money than __________ . It doesn’t really matter.
I finally had close to a $15 day ($14.77) to be exact. My adsense impresions are going up steadily and my click through rate with my YACG Pimped* sites are still around a healthy 25-30%.
I did get one or two really cool 50-80% click through days and I really wish I knew how I could repeat them, but I’m happy with what I have for now.
If my earnings stay clos to what they are, that is still a healthy extra $450 per month part time income with my first batch of site’s, which still aren’t truly complete yet by the way. I spent some time getting better content for my other sites as well as starting to incorporate some new tools and promotional methods.
I am still barely promoting my sites but last night I started to use “Trackback Submitter”. I cannot yet say what the results are yet, but from what I see, that is one powerful piece of software.
So, I am still learning and earning as I go along, but I refuse to get caught up into some competition or hype about the next big thing. I’ll just keep growing steadily and having fun until there is nothing left to do but relax. The reality is, there is no competition other than the one in your head. You either “create” your own success, or you don’t.
So if any of you ever see that anouncer guy, tell him he can take that blowhorn of his and stick it where only he can find it. Seriously.
“and the winner is…”
Why Does This Stuff Have To Be So Hard?
That was my first thoughts a few months ago when I mad my first attempts to make money online.
Sometimes it just seemed as though things were uneccessarily difficult. I knew there really had to be an easier way. This is especially when you hear in one ebook, “Oh yeah this stuff is easy, just do _________”. (You could fill in the blanks with whatever you want and you would probably be right).
So, I would just do “____________” and I would get screwed in the process.
Worse, I would later hear, “Oh you tried that, well just keep doing it. In fact, why don’t you buy my new course along with the ebook so you can pay even more money to waste your time with crap that doesn’t work. This stuff is easy”.
Yeah. It’s easy to sell a bunch of crap, but lets see who sticks around when the roses fail to grow.
Fast forward, I’m now about three weeks into using YACG Pimped* as a template for my portal sites and here are some of the highlights…
- I actually managed to get one day with an 80% click through rate for my adsense pages.
- My adsense earnings on my sites went from $0.35 per day to almost $10 per day ($9.92 to be exact)
- My natural search engine traffic is increasing.
- It looks as though maybe it really isn’t so hard after all.
I hate when people tell you something is easy, just because they want to sell you something. But then again, I guess that’s just all part of the game of selling.
I remember when I first went into the vending business, there were plenty of people who were willing to help me get started. I grew to about 50 locations before I hit a roadblock.
The roadblock was, how do I manage more locations without driving myself nuts? It is true that after a certain point, management is more important than the money you earn. This is because without proper management, you will lose the extra earnings anyway.
Well anyway, back to the vending thing. All these vendors who were willing to help me out at first got quiet all of a sudden once I grew to 50 locations. Did I do something wrong?
No that wasn’t it.
I found out later, that ussually, when you grow to a certain size, you become competition. From that point on, you are now a competitor and all trade secrets are off limits to you. In other words, your on your own buddy. Good luck.
Luckily however, if you look hard enough, there are a few honest people who are willing to help you succeed. I used to hear the phrase, “when the student is ready, the teacher will appear”.
Well, I really believe this is true now. Although it’s hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel when you’re struggling.
The truth is, this stuff doesn’t have to be so hard. Dishonest people make it harder than it is sometimes simply by not telling the truth about what truly works and what doesn’t.
Anyway, looks like I got a little off topic again.
I am currently using some social bookmarking methods as promotional tools and I am about to hire someone to do some other types of promotions for me. It looks like so far, any promotion will be better than nothing. Besides, I have been getting great results so far. From nothing to something is pretty good passive income.
Plus I have some really good people on my side who know that the internet is big enough to lend a helping hand to the little guy without the fear of competition.
I’m not trying to hurt anyone or steal food from off someones table. I’m just a regular guy with regular dreams, trying to earn some extra income online honestly.
So far, so good. When the student is ready…
